Trama
The beautiful Laura Hunt is found murdered in her New York apartment with a revolver that disfigured her face. Lieutenant McPherson investigates, becoming obsessively passionate about the case. From a novel by Vera Caspary, screenplay by Jay Dratler, Samuel Hoffenstein and Betty Reinhardt. Cult film for lovers of black cinema: elegance, decadence, perversion, cruelty, humor and a strong streak of necrophilia make it a unique cocktail. The tune by David Raksin (“Laura”) still enchants today. One of those happy films where everything contributes to the final result: direction, screenplay, photography (J. LaShelle, Oscar winner), set design, music. Some scenes were directed by Mamoulian, who was later replaced by producer D.F. Zanuck with Preminger. 3 minutes cut shortly after the film's release were reintroduced in certain video versions.
